UKIERI ( UK India Education Research Initiative )

UKIERI (UK INDIA EDUCATION RESEARCH INITIATIVE) was a prestigious and memorable Project. It was developed for a long term partnership between Colleges in U.K. and South Delhi Polytechnic for Women, New Delhi. The aim was to identify the skill needs of the Textile / Fashion Sector. The Prime Ministers of both the countries, announced the Project. Our Polytechnic was selected, after a rigorous evaluation. The partnership is aimed to encourage education and training, for excellence. That is, an innovative approach to Curriculum Design and Delivery, in the Industry. It emphasises upon business involvement, student work placements and links between higher educational Institutions. It focuses upon policy dialogues for promotion of opportunities for women, to access higher level of skills and employment.

We are happy to mention that we had a successful link up with Blackburn College, Lancashire, earlier. And, now a very meaningful one with Dundee College, Scotland – on the ‘Jute Project’. This includes faculty and Students skill-based exchange visits, teaching cum workshop conduction, as a part of exploratory training exercises - towards enhanced global employment opportunities.

The highlights of the Project were:

  • Faculty-Student Exchange
  • Sharing of Skilled-based Knowledge
  • Global Market/Trade Promotion
  • Showcase Innovative Achievements
    - on a Media-friendly/Industrial Platform
  • Other Bilateral/Symbiotic Events

An OVERSEAS VISITOR from Dundee, Scotland

Fiona Jurk , an old associate and friend from of Dundee College and University [who was key player in the UKIERI Projects and other managerial roles in the Administration (especially the Overseas chapter)] visited very kindly our Campus yet again (some nostalgia ,there!) along with her husband  Prof.W.Jurk ( a linguist ,  fluent in 9 languages). She had an interesting interactive talk with our students (mainly from Dept. of Office Management, Dept. of Advertising, PR & Business Studies, Dept. of Media Communication and Dept. of Travel, Tourism & Ticketing) in our Campus Conference Room. This was followed by lunch accompanied with convivial talk and banter.
