CONVOCATION
  The prestigious Convocation Ceremony is held annually. The passing out batch of Students are awarded with Diplomas, Certificates and Trophies, for various achievements and special performances.
1. First Class First for excelling in the final exams.
2. Director’s Shield for contribution in community upliftment, for the weaker sections of society or SUPW (Socially useful productive work).
3. Marg Drishti Trophy is to acknowledge the achievement of a Student, who has paved a unique path in her profession, and is thereby an inspiration for others.
4. Marg Dipty Trophy is conferred upon a challenged student, who despite her limitations has excelled in her field. She has therefore, illuminated a Vocational Lane in new ways, for those who come after her. This award was instituted in the memory of Late Dipty Chaudhuri, wife of Lt. General Bijeta Chaudhuri and great- grand daughter of Maharishi Debendranath Tagore.
5. Dr. A. R. Shah’s Trophy for 100% attendance in the entire academic Session. Late Dr. Shah was a civil surgeon, in the Central Provinces. He was an ardent promoter of female education, in the last century.
6. Jamila Kidwai Trophy is given to the most immaculate Hostel Student, who displays outstanding cleanliness, neatness, decorum and behaviour. This trophy is given in remembrance to the Late Jamila Kidwai, wife of His Excellency, the former Governor of Bihar, Bengal and Haryana.
7. Ashima Chaudhuri Kala-Rekha Trophy for excellence in DESIGN. It has been instituted in the memory of Late Ashima Chaudhuri. Although, notable as a Pioneer in Vocational Education for women. Renowned for her Managerial,Administrative skills and Leadership Role in establishing and successfully heading the South Delhi Polytechnic for Women. It is often overlooked that she was a distinction holder in Industrial Design from the Royal College of Art, London, England. One of her erstwhile mentors being Marianne Straub, who was associated with the famed Bauhaus movement. Therefore, it is more than befitting that this Award shall go to a student of any department or vocational stream. It may be single medium or multimedia or even an 'out-of-box' technical skill.
8. Dr.Biswajit Chaudhuri Trophy for 'Humane Crossings'. This award has been instituted in memory of the Late Dr . Biswajit Chaudhuri.He was associated with South Delhi Polytechnic for Women, that included Master Classes in First Aid for students from Dept. of Holistic Health & Fitness. He was a gold medallist & FRCS surgeon.Known at one time, to be the only qualified surgeon with an X-Ray machine between the River Yamuna and River Hindon.He was notable for having treated the rural populace,in the realm of injuries and accidents.He is specially remembered for his Hand Reconstruction and operating free or for a pittance, many needy and poverty-stricken people.It was however admirably realised during his Last Rites and Memorial Service that not only had he married out of his community but had truly reached out ,befriended and bonded with people from distant places and all walks of life.It is thus relevant that this Award shall be granted to any student, who has come out of her familiar or comfort zone and reached out to another being.This may be in the form of timely healing, care or camaraderie, support, guidance or assistance - in some evident exceptional manner.
 
   
   
   
   
       
CONVOCATION FOR THE SESSION 2018-2019

52nd  CONVOCATION, 3rd of December, 2019

  The 56 years old South Delhi Polytechnic for Women celebrated its 52nd Convocation Ceremony. The Chief Guest was Prof. Najma Akhtar, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia University.
   Dr. Reyhan Chaudhuri, Director, presented the Annual Report, for the Session: 2018 – 2019. She presented the highlights of the Academic calendar year. She also shared with the audience, the fact that the Chief Guest had just inaugurated an Exhibition titled ‘LIVING WITH LEAVES’ @ the Campus Gallery 2000 created by both Art and Non Art based Departments in accordance to the theme. A short film by Media Dept was also going to be released by Mr. Monis Kidwai, President – Vocational Education Society and uploaded on the You-Tube, with the title ‘POLY-KI-KAHANI, PATTON-KI-ZUBANI’.
   In the CONVOCATION address, Prof. Najma Akhtar congratulated students and she said that this Polytechnic is Responsible for changing little girls into Responsible Women. She stressed on the word Convocation; which starts with letter C and ends with letter N. C- conciseness, commitment, confidence, conviction, compassion, co-operation, collaboration. N- Negotiation, Necessity.  She focused on the Qualities like practical thinking, social skills, resolute courage and to come up with flying colours, every girl should be self reliant and have an optimistic outlook in life, achieve heights and also be aware of the rights and duties. She concluded that one should never compromise and to be more persistent in their focused areas.
     IN the Presidential Address: Vocational Education SocietyMr. Monis R. Kidwai, President expansively said that three things plays an important role in everybody’s life i.e., Promises Made, Timely Delivery and Quality. He said if you focus upon these three factors, fix your aim and follow that, you will succeed. These three things can never be compromised. There may be challenges but to achieve your goals one should be consistent.
      Treasurer, Vocational Education SocietyChowdhary Raghunath Singh graciously gave the Vote of thanks. He posthumously remembered 3 stalwarts who had been instrumental in the inception and success of the College. They were Honble Dr. AR Kidwai, Former Governor Bihar, Bengal & Haryana., UPSC Chairman, and Member of Parliament.  Also Prof. Mohd. Amin and Founder Director Ashima Chaudhuri. The Convocation ceremony concluded with the National Anthem.

 

CONVOCATION FOR THE SESSION 2017-2018

51st  CONVOCATION
, 18th of December, 2018

     The 54 years old South Delhi Polytechnic for Women celebrated its 51st Convocation Ceremony. The Chief Guest was Mr. Naveen S.Lakshman,.District Magistrate & Deputy Commissioner, South East Delhi.   
He awarded 33 first-class-first Rank Students with Certificates and Citations. There were 6 more AWARD trophies too, namely Dr. A.R.Shah Trophy , for 100% attendance went to Mamta       Kandari from Dept. of Holistic Health & Fitness. Jamila Kidwai Trophy for the most exemplary Hostel student went to Anjali Anand ,Dept.of Holistic Health & Fitness AND Sharmila   from the Dept of Media Communication. Marg Drishti Trophy for the student who has attained an unique achievement for excellence in her Vocational  profession, This year it went to a student, Chand Bakshi from Dept. of Fashion Design & Merchandising, who is a popular Fashion Paegant Activist & Entrepreneur. Marg Dipty Trophy for a special student who faced specific challenges and yet completed her Course Programme successfully. Thereby illuminating Vocational Lanes,as never before. This was awarded to Divyakshi Raina (Dept of Holistic Health & Fitness). Ashima Chaudhuri  Kala Rekha Trophy  for discerning strokes in Art & in Design went to Pooja Rani (Dept. of Fine Art) and Dr. Biswajit Chaudhuri Trophy for ‘Humane Crossings was presented to Komal Thakur (Dept. of Garment Technology).
     Dr. Reyhan Chaudhuri, Director, presented the Annual Report, for the Session: 2017 – 2018. She presented the highlights of the Academic calendar year. Including the Life-time achievement award (posthumous) to Founder Director Ashima Chaudhuri by Textile Association of India on 17 Nov,2018. She also shared with the audience, the fact that the Chief Guest had just inaugurated an Exhibition titled ‘Circling the Circle@ the Campus Gallery 2000 created by both Art and Non Art based Departments in accordance to the theme. A short film by Media Dept was also going to be released by JNU Prof.Atiya Kidwai and uploaded on the You-Tube, with the title ‘Poly ka Chakkar’.
     In the CONVOCATION  address : Mr. naveen S. l. congratulated  students and­­­­­ he said there is no substitute for Hard Work.  One should be   and try to overcome them.  He told students to be more persistent in their focused areas.  Hard Work is the mantra for success.

CONVOCATION FOR THE SESSION 2016-2017

50th  CONVOCATION
, 21st of December, 2017

             The 54 years old South Delhi Polytechnic for Women celebrated its 50th Convocation Ceremony. Regretfully, it was the first Convocation without the Founder Director Ashima Chaudhuri Ji, who sadly passed away in August’2017. The Chief Guest was Ms. Hiroko Kawauchi Ralhan , notable Architect and formerly with Embaixada do Brasil (Embassy of Brazil). 
            She awarded  41 first-class-first Rank Students with Certificates and Citations. There were 6 more AWARD trophies too, namely  Dr. A. R. Shah award, for 100% attendance. One student Preet Kaur Sachdeva from Dept. of Fashion Design & Merchandising, who created a history of sorts by having 100 % attendance in ALL her three years of Study. The other two  awarded were Monika Barua from Dept. of Holistic Health & Fitness(100% attendance for 2 yrs of study) and Nirishma Krishnan from Dept. of Advertising ,PR and Business Studies. Jamila Kidwai trophy for the most exemplary Hostel student went to Akanksha Jaiswal. Marg Dhristi trophy for the student who has attained an unique achievement for excellence in her Vocational field of profession,This year it went to a student Shivani Behl  from Dept. of Textile & Apparel Design,who is heading Indian chapter of Gateway Enterprise and is a major sole sourcer and buyer for them, from: India,Pakistan & China.  Marg Dipty award for a special student who faced specific challenges and yet,  completed her Course Programme successfully. Thereby illuminating Vocational Lanes, as never before. This was awarded to Apoorva Singhal (Dept of Fine Art). There were also two new trophy Awards called Ashima Chaudhuri  Kala Rekha Trophy  for excellence in Design to Rohini Prasad (Dept. of Fashion Design & Merchandising) and Dr. Biswajit Chaudhuri Trophy for ‘Humane Crossings to Anuja Choksi Khanna ( Dept. of Fine Art).
            Dr. Reyhan Chaudhuri, Director, presented the Annual Report, for the Session : 2016 – 2017.She also shared with the audience ,the fact that the Chief Guest had just inaugurated  an Exhibition titled ‘Yadoon-ki-Pukaar’ @ the Campus Gallery 2000. A short film by Media Dept was also going to be released and uploaded with the same title, on You - Tube. They had deliberately not glossed over her Professional and Academic Feats and instead had done a memorable journey of sentiment and nostalgia.
             In the CONVOCATION  address : Ms. Hiroko Kawauchi Rralhan congratulated  students and impressed upon them the importance of having their very own Career and to  be self-reliant. She then, extrapolated the values and ethos of the Founder Director Mrs. Ashima Chaudhuri. She mentioned how she was dynamic and curious about everything. And upon learning something, she would apply it in her daily life or find a use for it. She added also (being her friend from almost 50 years) that Late Ashima Chaudhuri was a good hearted, fascinating and hard working lady. She appreciated her college for achieving considerable success and to reach its present heights. It was impressive how she admitted and educated every girl student, irrespective of their caste or religion.
              In the Presidential Address: Vocational Education Society : DR. ABAD AHMAD, Ex Pro-Vice Chancellor, Delhi University in his Presidential Address expansively said more on the Founder Director’s achievements and the uniqueness of the College.

 The Dean (Academics) and Vice-Principal   graciously and emotionally gave the Vote of thanks.

 The Convocation ceremony concluded with the National Anthem.
